Sooner or later, somebody has to remove the hook.
When you’re fishing with kids, that somebody is probably you.

It’s safety equipment.
If you’re taking kids onto a boat or fishing around water where a life jacket is appropriate or legally required, the PFD needs to be suitable for the child’s current weight and intended activity.
